Several moments of the passion are depicted in a single scene: men nail Christ's hands and feet to the cross, and another places a crown of thorns around his head; Longinus pierces Christ's side with a spear, pointing to his eye as he recognizes Christ as the Messiah; and Christ is given vinegar to drink from a sponge, held to his mouth on a spear.
