Тихвинская, с клеймами апокрифа {4508}
Virgin of Tikhvin, with apocryphal frames
история:
The icon was most likely commissioned by Novgorodians (perhaps archbishop Gennady, 1484 - 1504) of a Moscow painter to entrench the cultus of the Virgin of Tikhvin as sacred to Novgorod.
Characteristic of this period, following the annexation of Novgorod to Moscow in 1478, was the glorification of Novgorodian sacred cults and their incorporation in Russia's overall system of worship.
