This panel allows to go deeply into the art of Italian Renaissance belonging to the second half of the 15th century.
It probably was a part of an altarpiece ordered by Ludovico Gonzaga to decorate the chapel of the Mantua family castle.
It was subsequently sold to Charles I of England and later on it was purchased for Philip IV at the auction of the works of art held upon the former's execution.
