Death of the Virgin
Мантенья А.
Andrea Mantegna
This panel allows to go deeply into the art of Italian Renaissance belonging to the second half of the 15th century.
It probably was a part of an altarpiece ordered by Ludovico Gonzaga to decorate the chapel of the Mantua family castle.
It was subsequently sold to Charles I of England and later on it was purchased for Philip IV at the auction of the works of art held upon the former's execution.
