Purchased from Mr Thomas Rodd, bookseller, (b. 1796, d. 1836), January 1836 with money from the Bridgewater fund.
This image faces one of the Evangelist Luke and prefaces his Gospel.
Personifications of the sun (Sol) and moon (Luna) occupy the spaces above the arms of the cross, Virgin and John flank the cross, and half-length figures of Adam and Eve emerge from their graves below.
